The expression that someone “…oozes class” may be a cliché, but I can think of no better way to describe our friend, Nazary Ahmad (aka Mao Gila). This guy oozes class out of every pore and can’t stop even if he wanted to. Ask him about the finer thing in life – anything from fountain pens to Harleys or lamb curry to cigars – he’ll go into a passionate and informative discourse that will blow you away! And in the process, you can’t help but feel that some of his class has rubbed-off onto you, too.
Nazary is now the head honcho (CEO) of Menara Taming Sari in Melaka. In other words, he runs the latest, and arguably, the most recognizable modern landmark in Melaka. However, Nazary refuses to be defined by his work. While his work is important to him, he never lets you forget that it is only a small facet of who he is. The thing that registers most in my mind about him was his lament about what happens when Seremban 75ers (who have not met each other for some time) meet up again.
Nazary: Awat semua orang tanya semua orang, “Hang kerja mana sekarang?”
Me: Apasal? What’s wrong with that?
Nazary: Tanyalah aku, “Hang sihat ka?”. Atau tanyalah, “Amacam family hang? Baik ka?”
Me: Hmmm…
Nazary: Bro! Mana lagi penting? The person? Or the job he is holding?
This short conversation was an epiphany to me; an ‘a-ha’ moment when I learned a little bit more about the things that really should matter. Thanks, my friend.
See? I told you this guy oozes class!
